Narrate’s New Blog

Welcome to Tell Your Story, Narrate’s blog where I discuss topics and stories related to collecting oral history like interview techniques, recording, and best practices in the field. I started my business Narrate during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. What I don’t know about creating and building a business could fill canyons. However, I am a pretty experienced interviewer of people, and over my career I’ve been able to talk with and learn from artists, community leaders, politicians, musicians, farmers, educators and tradition bearers. I’ve interviewed and documented celebrities and award-winners, and plain, old-fashioned folks. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have talked with these people and to have learned so much. I know the value of asking people questions and listening to their responses, and the value goes far beyond monetary compensation.

Over the last couple of years of COVID-19 it has become apparent it’s a good idea to try new things, and see how they fare. I am starting this blog - cautiously and slowly - and hoping to be able to develop a decent writing voice, to share some of my experiences, and to showcase some of the amazing folks I’ve gotten to know in my career. Here’s to trying something new.
